This role is open to House of Commons, Joint Departments and House of Lords employees only.
Introduction
The People & Culture team (PACT) is responsible for corporate People strategy and planning. The team develops HR policies and standards and provides efficient, accurate and customer-focused support to internal customers across the Administration and Joint Departments. Although this post would be based in the House of Commons, the post-holder would be expected to work on behalf of both the House of Commons, House of Lords and the joint departments of both Houses.
The Role
The Safeguarding project manager will work to the new Parliamentary Safeguarding Lead to support the roll-out of the new policy over the next 24 months. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to work across Parliament to ensure that the new policy is effectively implemented and embedded.
Combining project management skills with an understanding of Parliament, including its administrative and governance structures, the post-holder will play a vital role in bringing this cross-cutting policy into effect.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- To establish and maintain a comprehensive implementation plan for the safeguarding policy, including all necessary project activities, deliverables and approvals
- To act as Secretary to the bicameral Safeguarding Board
- To support the Parliamentary Safeguarding Lead in navigating Parliamentary governance and structures across both Houses and the joint departments
- To log casework, collate and maintain statistics of referrals, and to manage the safeguarding inbox
- To devise and maintain a register of roles across Parliament requiring DBS checks, and to monitor for renewals as necessary
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Qualifications | No previous experience of safeguarding is required to meet the criteria for the post, but the post-holder will be expected to undertake training on appointment. Candidates without specific project management qualifications but with a strong willingness to learn will be considered for additional training and development opportunities, including the potential to undertake an apprenticeship.
- Understand Parliamentary Governance | A good understanding of the two Houses, in particular, administrative and team structures, as well as governance routes. Experience of working to boards or groups, with a good understanding of the functions of an effective secretariat.
- Project Management | Understanding of project management principles and tools and experience of applying them to own work or that of others.
- Diversity & Inclusion - Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to work across organisational boundaries and teams, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Communication | Communicates information clearly, orally and in writing, to a wide variety of audiences.
- Dealing with Sensitive Information | Ability to deal with sensitive information in the workplace confidentially and confidently. Awareness of the principles of effective information and records management, and the requirements of GDPR.
